Welcome to the Peaks and Pints Newsletter

Welcome to the latest edition looking back at some of the posts that appeared under Pints in 2017, covering places to eat, drink and listen to music.

If somewhere isn't on my site it probably means I just haven't been there or occasionally it hasn't inspired me to write about it. I'm not a professional critic of food, travel or music, my blog is just a site to tell you about the places I have been to and liked and hope that you might as well.

Look out for the next edition that will look back at posts which appeared under Life and then in 2018 it will become a quarterly newsletter.

Great Beer, Superb Food.....what more could you want!

Great Beer, Superb Food.....what more could you want!

I've never had a pub I could truly call my local until I moved to Llandudno and within five minutes walk of my flat was The Albert. As in any seaside town there are quite a few pubs but for me if you want good food with a great pint then look no further than The Albert and on top …

Best little coffee shop in North Wales?

Best little coffee shop in North Wales?

There are not too many people visiting North Wales who would say that they must stop off in Llandudno Junction and but for the fact that I started going to a Pilates class on a Saturday morning I would never had reason to go and I might never have discovered Providero which has to be the best little coffee shop …

What do the Loire, Nappa and Conwy Valleys have in common?

What do the Loire, Nappa and Conwy Valleys have in common?

Believe it or not wine! Probably like many people I have a lot of  misconceptions about wine grown in the UK, after all you tend to associate wine production with sunnier climates and the UK is not renowned for that and perhaps even more so when you think of Wales, but for me all that has changed having been to a …

The story of the Pigeon Toed Orange Peel, Dr Jekyll's Last Waltz and the mystery of Gwyneth's handbag!

If you are a member of CAMRA, a regular in The Albert or just like beer then you will know what I am talking about, if not then bear with me! One of the many things that has amazed me since moving to North Wales is the number of small independent micro breweries and there are some great articles from a couple of …

Let's hear it for the Independents!

Let's hear it for the Independents!

I enjoy live music and I recently worked out that over the last 40 years I have seen over 60 different bands, some of which I have seen more than once and there was even one band I saw twice in the same week! In moving to North Wales I did wonder what the music scene would be like, especially …

Get down to Colwyn Bay to find out if The Bay Hop is the Holy Grail of Ale!

The Bay Hop Colwyn Bay If you like ale then a visit to The Bay Hop in Colwyn Bay is a must and even if you don't you should go on a Sunday afternoon when they have live music and other alcoholic beverages are available! On first sight it is very unassuming as it is not a traditional pub but …

Stand-up comedy is alive and well at the 3rd space!

Stand-up comedy is alive and well at the 3rd space!

One of the first posts I did when I launched Peaks and Pints was of the 3rd space at the Great Orme Brewery. At the time I said: 'When most people think of Llandudno they probably think of an ageing population and traditional seaside entertainment but tucked away on Builder Street is 3rd space at the Great Orme Brewery and …

V is for Voltaire and Vegan

V is for Voltaire and Vegan

Would you go to a restaurant if you knew it was Vegan, i.e. there was no meat on the menu? I think most meat eating people would only consider it as a last resort but hopefully Voltaire in Bangor could change all that! My daughter has become a vegan this year and so I have started to look for vegan/vegetarian …

Hiding in plain sight?

Hiding in plain sight?

One of my favourite pubs in Conwy is The Gladstone Arms at Dwygyfylchi. Situated just off the roundabout of the A55 at junction 16 for Penmaenmawr/Dwygyfychi and in clear view of travellers as they head along the A55 you feel as if it is hiding in plain sight. I've now been three or four times and every time has been good, not only just …

Pen-y-Bryn......just what the doctor ordered!

On their website even the Pen-y-Bryn in Colwyn Bay acknowledges that from the outside it looks a bit like a medical centre but that is where the similarity ends and as they also say once you go inside, you'll find lovely oak floors, open fires, bookcases and old furniture.......if only going to the doctors was enjoyable as going to the …
